Thursday, 03/25/1926 Schoengarth, August (16 Dec. 1849 - 21 March 1926) August Schoengarth, one of the old residents of Neillsville, died Sunday Morning, March 21, at the home of his son, Judge O. W. Schoengarth. His death was due to hardening of the arteries, caused by old age. August Schoengarth was born December 16, 1849, near Breslow, Germany, being the son of Carl and Helen Schoengarth. He came to the United States with his parents in 1869, in the fall of that year located in Milwaukee. In the spring of 1870 he came to Neillsville with his brother Fred, and went into the book and shoe business with Julius Tragsdo F. Later the partnership was dissolved and he went into the brick manufacturing business by himself, continuing in this until about ten years ago when he retired. He was a man of industrious and frugal habits, honest and upright in all his dealings, and contributed by his enterprise to the betterment of this city and its surroundings. He took an active part in improvements in the city and for some years was an alderman. His wife, Sarah, died in 1923, and his son Edward, in 1917. He is survived by one son, Judge Oscar W. Schoengarth, one sister, Mrs. Otto Walter of Neillsville, a brother Fred also of this city, and a brother, William of Granton. He leaves also a little grandson, Lowell, son of Judge and Mrs. O. W. Schoengarth. Deceased was a member of the Neillsville Benevolent Society. The funeral is held this Wednesday afternoon in the Congregational church at 2 p.m., preceded by a short service at the home, Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating.
