Lynch, James (1808 - 22 APR 1885)
Died, at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. S. B. Hewett, Tavares, Fla., April 22nd,
1885, Mr. James Lynch, aged 77 years.
His remains arrived in Neillsville, Clark County this morning, and the funeral sermon was preached this
afternoon in the M.E. Church, by Rev. W. T. Hendren, of the Presbyterian Church. Mr. and Mrs. Lynch
went to Florida last fall to spend the winter, hoping to return in the spring much improved by their
escape from the rigor of the climate of Wisconsin. But the change was too great for one so far advanced
in years. He was a native of Pittsburgh. In 1835 he was married to Margarette E. Kirtland. He was the
father of 11 children. Five children and twelve grandchildren survive him.
Mr. Lynch came to Neillsville in May 1857 and has been known as one of its most honest and industrious
citizens. All who knew him respected him for his quiet and inoffensive manner and all who had business
with him trusted him because of his unimpeachable honesty. A kind father, good neighbor and a worthy
citizen, he will be much missed by all the old citizens of Neillsville.
